Review: UZ & Protohype @ Avalon Hollywood 8/9/13

If you were looking to hear some of the best trap and heavy bass music in the game then Control Fridays was the place to be last Friday night. UZ and Protohype were booked along with Photek for a night of complete mayhem. We haven’t seen a line outside of Avalon that long in a while so we knew it was going to be a packed house.

Photek started the night off as we entered Avalon and he had the drum n bass fueling the club. The pounding beats had people dancing hard early on into the night. Around 12:30pm Photek finished up his set and UZ took the stage. Immediately the energy in the club escalated and UZ dropped his first track. The bass hit so hard you could feel the vibration at your feet. UZ is known for his Trap Shit mix series which he releases through his Soundcloud and we heard a lot of that as well as tracks from his Balltrap Muzic Vol. 1.  A few of our favorite tracks were “Booty 2 The Ground” and “Trap Shit V15.” The visuals for UZ’s set were completely insane with fire bursts and his mysterious mask displayed on the LED screen. We only wish we knew who was really under that mask. Around 1:30 UZ finished up and Protohype came up next.

LA producer Protohype came up and once again we could feel that bass fill up the club. The sounds of heavy dubstep and booty shaking music were dropping one after the other. We have seen Protohype several times and he always throws down a heavy set. He just recently released his Hear No Evil EP so we hear several of his newer tracks and he also took it back with a remix to Skrillex’s “Hey Sexy Lady.” Protohype went on for over an hour and his set never slowed down. It was another hugely successful night at Avalon for Control Fridays and we look forward to the next one. Keep up to date with UZ, Protohype, and Control at the following links.
