Review: 12th Planet @ Avalon 2/28/12

What can I say that hasn’t already been said about 12th Planet other than he is the Godfather of dubstep. On his The End Is Near tour 12th Planet made a stop to his home town of Los Angeles and brought the talents of Kastle, Circuit, and Flinch. For full review & videos click through the break.

Though I didn’t make it for Circuit, Kastle didn’t disappoint with his very laidback melodies at Avalon and had people dancing straight into a funky dubstep era that got us ready for Flinch, even though it was my first time hearing Kastle he did have a style I’ve  heard that gets you into a good relaxed mood of dance. Flinch totally brought the house down with new a single to start the night and new remixes that he currently did for the tour that did impress. He threw in a little Nero and Some Knife Party to keep the good times going and didn’t disappoint when his hour set right before 12th Planet. After Flinch had us going, 12:30pm hit and 12th Planet takes center stage at Avalon with his bottom set LED screen.

He opens his set with his first song of “The End is Near” Ep which has same song title and the crowd new it was gonna be a great night. He played everything from “Right On Time” which is featured with fellow label mate Skrillex on his latest EP and played other singles like “Burst” which is with Kill The Noise as well. He also played all great dubstep singles from Flux Pavillion, Nero and Knife Party with its own 12th Planet kick. 12th Planet knows how to keep the crowd hyped whether he is on those two turntables doing his LA swag dance, to crowd surfing, throwing his latest EP into the crowd, or even if you’re tired he’ll maybe throw you some red bulls with 12th Planet stickers.

Though his tour is almost over, 12th Planet has put his stamp in the dubstep era with big names like Rusko, Skrillex, Nero, Flux Pavillion and you can catch him at big festivals this summer like Nocturnal Texas as well as Electric Forrest, and don’t be surprised if he ends up at EDC too (not yet confirmed). I’m sure 2012 will bring many good things from the Los Angeles native for he has shown he can hang with heavyweights dubstep, DJs head lining his own tour with partner Scion, and also bring the house down for Funktion Wednesday presented by Insomniac at Avalon. Till the next Funktion Dropthebeatz dropping the EDM knowledge on you.
