Australian electronic music visionary What So Not is entering a bold new chapter with the announcement of his forthcoming project and accompanying U.S. tour, I SAW A TRAP DJ AND IT CHANGED MY BIO CHEMISTRY.
Marking both a personal evolution and a wider reflection on the trap and bass movement that helped shape modern dance music culture, the project sees What So Not revisiting the sounds and emotions that defined an era. As one of the pioneering figures behind the global rise of cinematic trap and experimental bass music throughout the 2010s, he played a major role in transforming festival stages, internet music communities, and electronic music’s crossover into mainstream culture.
Inspired by the raw creativity of early SoundCloud days, formative collaborations, and the explosive growth of trap music worldwide, I SAW A TRAP DJ AND IT CHANGED MY BIO CHEMISTRY blends nostalgia with forward-thinking production. The project channels the unpredictability and emotional intensity of early trap while incorporating years of sonic exploration across drum & bass, analog instrumentation, cinematic songwriting, and global rhythmic influences.

In support of the release, What So Not will launch the I SAW A TRAP DJ AND IT CHANGED MY BIO CHEMISTRY U.S. Tour, a curated run of intimate club performances and select festival appearances designed to recreate the energy, connection, and chaos that defined the early trap and bass scene. Tour stops include performances at Club Vinyl, 45 East, Substance, and Marquee New York, alongside festival appearances at Das Energi and Lost In Dreams.
Since his breakout success in 2013 with influential releases like “High You Are” (Branchez Remix), What So Not has built a reputation for emotionally driven production, cinematic sound design, and genre-pushing electronic music. From fan-favorite records like “Gemini” to his acclaimed rework of RÜFÜS DU SOL’s “Innerbloom,” he continues to blur the line between nostalgia and reinvention — creating music that resonates deeply with longtime listeners while introducing a new generation to the emotional depth and innovation of trap’s golden era.
“For a long time I found myself running away from a sound I helped create. In my journey to always do the ‘next’ thing, I think I neglected my thing. This project comes from finally reconnecting with that energy – not to recreate the past, but to understand why it resonated so deeply in the first place.”
“I feel like I’m finally writing the music everybody wants from me – but on my own terms, on my own time, with the tools of a lifetime chasing ‘what’s next’.” says What So Not
